Donated Goods Sourcer

Location:

Bedfordshire / Hertfordshire / Leicester

Commitment:

Approx 4hrs per week. Hours to suit.

Department:

This is a new role created to help our shops attract donations of good quality stock from individuals at their place of work or study.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contacting schools, colleges, nurseries, large employers ect and asking them to collect donated goods for a local Oxfam shop.
  • Working with the local shop to arrange collection of the donations.
  • Follow up to the donor to thank them.
  • Arranging any suitable publicity.
  • Home based (you will need a telephone and computer, expenses will be reimbursed), or possibly in a shop

Skills and competences:

  • Initiative and persistence.
  • Enthusiasm and a positive nature.
  • Good telephone manner.
  • Good organisational skills.

Oxfam Online Shop (OOS) Quality Control Manager

Location:

Oxfam House, Oxford or home based.

Commitment:

Minimum commitment of 8 hours a week but flexible thereafter.

New Income Team, Trading Division. Oxfam has a network of 750 shops throughout the UK. Its purpose is to make as much money as possible to overcome poverty and suffering.

The New Income Team aims to develop and grow new income streams to raise £10m + per year, whilst increasing engagement of the 5 – 11m people who share our values so that we are able to enrich their experience of Oxfam. Oxfam launched its Online shop on 6th September 2007 showcasing over 105,000 donated items as well as New Product and Unwrapped products.

  • Carry out regular quality control checks on Oxfam Online Shop (OOS) Shops listings using the OOS Guide, pricing guides and postage guidelines.
  • Provide regular feedback to OOS Shops regarding their quality of listings.
  • Report persistent misuse of guidelines to the Shop Operations Lead.

Shop Recruitment Officer

Wedding Dress Sorter

Location:

Oxfam Offices, Bicester OX26 4RF

Commitment:

Flexible. Up to1 day a week or two half days. The amount of time will vary depending on the amount of donations

Department:

Oxfam Bridal is seeking a volunteer to help sort donated wedding dresses which will be sold in the 10 bridal wear departments. Most of the dresses are given by designers and bridal shops. Many are ex-catwalk and are in mint condition. Prior to the dresses reaching the shops they need to be sorted and packed to ensure that they stay in excellent condition ready for distribution. The volunteer will work alongside the Bridal Co-ordinator ,Barbara Walmsley.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Checking that the donated wedding dresses are of a high quality for prospective brides
  • Sharing the excitement when a really stunning dress arrives and you know that it will sell quickly and for a good price.
  • Sorting the wedding dresses into specific styles e.g. strapless, vintage, etc
  • Packing the dresses into boxes, to ensure they are protected and ready for transporting to one of the Oxfam bridal wear shops
  • Liaising with the Bridal Coordinator and Shop Managers regarding their requirements and identifying any shortages in stock
  • Assisting the Bridal Co-ordinator in valuing the donations and building up an understanding of which styles of dresses sell well in which Oxfam shops

Skills and competences:

  • A great eye for detail – to ensure that dresses are of high quality ready for resale.
  • An Interest or appreciation of wedding dress design and style (Training will be given)
  • Good communication skills
  • Some lifting of the boxed wedding dresses will be required

Catering Assistant

Volunteer Finance Assistant in Newcastle

The Newcastle Finance Office is part of the Trading Division of Oxfam. Oxfam has a network of c.770 shops throughout the UK and Newcastle office deals with about 400 of them. The main role of the Finance Office is to assist with the recording and processing of the shop income and/or associated expenditure for the Oxfam shops.

Commitment:

At least 6 hours a week for a minimum of 3 months.

The office is open Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.15pm and 9am to 5pm on a Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Checking and entering data from income returns/logging and filing shop returns
  • Checking accuracy of invoices and processing them for payment
  • Problem solving and dealing with queries
  • Customer Care and phone answering/processing mail in/ assisting with mail outs/ maintaining and operating databases

Key skills:

No previous experience needed as full training is provided. However some or all of the following would be an advantage:

  • Good basic numeracy and attention to detail
  • A basic knowledge of or a willingness to learn IT skills
  • Organised approach to work/ good team player
    Good interpersonal skills
